Murray H. Goodman founded The Goodman Company, now headquartered in West Palm Beach, Florida, in 1960 in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He has been active and successful in developing retail and office properties throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Florida and Virginia for over 45 years. The Company is a real estate development and investment concern specializing in retail commercial properties. After college, Goodman began his career in the general contracting field constructing institutional buildings and developing supermarkets, service stations and small shopping centers in eastern Pennsylvania. Subsequently, the Company broadened its scope of operations through the development and management of larger shopping centers and regional malls as well as other commercial property and served as a forerunner in the development and management of regional and super regional malls.
The Goodman Company, a private concern and is solely owned by Murray H. Goodman, has developed, owned and managed in excess of 20 million square feet of commercial space and is best known for the development of the 1,200,000 square foot Granite Run Mall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; the 1,140,000 square foot Westmoreland Mall located near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; 150 Worth (Esplanade) and Neiman Marcus, an award-winning high-quality shopping complex located on exclusive Worth Avenue in Palm Beach; and Phillips Point, a 960,000 square foot trophy office building complex in West Palm Beach. Murray Goodman, one of the pioneers of the super-regional mall concept, maintains his office in the Phillips Point complex.
Major projects developed by The Goodman Company also include the 1,100,000 square foot Berkshire Mall in Reading, Pennsylvania and the 908,000 square foot Coventry Mall in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. In addition to the above retail developments, Goodman has also developed several hotel properties. Presently, the company has two retail projects under construction and several in the planning stages located primarily in Virginia, Florida, Tennessee and Georgia totaling approximately 3 million square feet.
Goodman is a long-time member and trustee of the International Council of Shopping Centers and has previously been ranked as one of the leading developers and managers of shopping malls by Shopping Center World, a highly regarded trade publication.
Goodman was born in Bethlehem, PA. He attended Liberty High School in Bethlehem, PA and served 2 ½ years in the United States Army Air Force prior to attending Lehigh University where he was captain of the basketball team and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. He received an Honorary Doctorate degree from Lehigh University in 1988 and was a Hall of Fame inductee in 1999.
